Our Garden

While our beautiful dogs take up most of our time, we also love pottering in our garden.
It is a hobby that the dogs enjoy but their input is more digging up, than nurturing the tender plants!!!!!

The garden was designed in 2002 by Lesley Rosser, a well known garden designer who lived in the village. The brief was to have a fairly low maintenance garden with a large patio area outside the kitchen with a water feature and large beds for lots of plants. The site’s main problems were a large population of rabbits and it is very windy.

By October 2002 the garden was built and planted. It is difficult to imagine now but previously there was only lawn, a few fruit trees and one large birch tree.

In 2005 we spent some time re-modeling the front garden and this is still “work in progress”. We have planted up the front bed with a mixture of ferns and grasses for shady spots.  In 2006 we focused on the roof garden which was also designed by Lesley. We love the garden and it has surpassed my expectations. There is something of interest every day of the year.

Future projects are planned!

Sadly Lesley died in April 2006 after a long illness which she faced with amazing strength and courage. She was an inspiration to her friends and she lived life to the full right to the end. Over all the years we became good friends and I shall miss her very much. Her gift in the form of my garden and an appreciation of colour and design is one I will treasure.
